First Year of the AMEXCID - USAID MoU
June 30, 2022
Institutional Context
USAID is a global international development agency that seeks to drive development results. USAID's work aims to advance U.S. national security and economic prosperity, demonstrate American generosity, and promote a path to recipient self-reliance and resilience. Its Mexican counterpart is the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID, in Spanish). AMEXCID is a decentralized body of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, created on September 28, 2011, to address issues related to International Development Cooperation.
Since June 2021, in accordance with an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by the Mexican and American governments, the aforementioned agencies have exchanged information, good practices, and have carried out joint missions in El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala. Synergies and shared activities have also been created to enhance the impact in the region.
First Year of the AMEXCID - USAID MoU
June 30th, 2022 was the anniversary of the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between Mexico and the United States, through which they agreed to: learn from successful experiences of USAID and AMEXCID; coordinate efforts to promote well-being in El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala; and address the root causes of irregular migration. Both governments celebrated the anniversary in a meeting held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The event was followed by an Operational Planning Workshop, where officials from both agencies participated in the construction of a cooperation protocol, based on mutual learning of the successful experiences of AMEXCID and USAID, as well as on coordination of efforts.
