XXIX Binational Meeting of PROBEM
October 5-7, 2022
Institutional Context
The Binational Migrant Education Program (PROBEM) aims to strengthen the exchange of academic and cultural experiences between teachers from Mexico and the United States through a strategic and methodological development that betters the teaching-learning process of migrant children and youth. The program aims to achieve its goals through quality education, equity and belonging, as well as promoting knowledge of history, culture, values and traditions to strengthen national identity. The program was created to meet the demand for bilingual teachers in order to meet the educational needs of the community of Mexican origin children and youth in the United States and sensitize educators to the educational problems caused by migratory flows that Mexico and the United States share.
XXIX Binational Meeting of PROBEM
The XXIX Meeting of the Binational Migrant Education Program (PROBEM in Spanish) was held at the Mexican Foreign Ministry, from October 5th to 7th. The main objective of the meeting is to establish a dialogue and exchange of experiences between educators from Mexico and the United States to jointly review programs and actions that allow students in both countries to continue their educational trajectory, and insertion in their destination communities.
During the meeting, different panels were held to: follow-up on the activities established in the PROBEM work schedule; provide a space for the exchange of experiences and recognition of results; and work on the program design for next year’s PROBEM Teacher Exchange Program.
It was highlighted at the event that there are still many challenges to face in raising the education rates of the vulnerable Mexican diaspora, however, both nations have made key efforts that require the commitment and coordinated action of both federal and state educational authorities.
